Today marks the 63rd birthday of the first entry to J.R.R. Tolkien’s Masterwork, The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring. While most will remember the 2001 film that changed the way we look at the fantasy genre, and will later to go on to do the same for computer animation & give birth to performance capture. Its later entries will also go on to hold the record for Academy Award wins with its final chapter, The Return Of The King. Sweeping the Awards ceremony with 11 wins. Winning every category for which it was nominated . All that started 63 years ago today. For me it is hard to believe there was a world that didn’t have Lord Of The Rings in it. I never read the book in my youth. Most schools have made it required reading, not so for myself. I hated Tolkien growing up. Calling him overrated, Old etc. It wasn’t until I hit my adult years that I understood the genius of the man and the story that forever changed the world.
